Meditation can be very enjoyable and a great stress reliever. There are various forms of meditation which can be quite different. Guided imagery meditation is a technique that guides the imagination toward a relaxed, focused state by directing thoughts. It is based on the concept that the body and mind are connected. The body responds to the use of all the senses by experiencing them as real.
When you imagine vivid details of a safe and comfortable place the body relaxes. A common example is being at the ocean; the feel of the soft sand under your feet and gentle breeze caressing your face, the smell of the fresh and salty air, the gentle sound of rippling waves, and the sight of the beautiful blue ocean, clear blue sky, and bright golden sun.
Research suggests that this relaxed state may aid healing, learning, creativity, and performance. Health benefits may include decreased blood pressure, heart rate, and pain. Anxiety and fatigue may be decreased as well. Meditation can also help you feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, leading to a greater sense of well-being.
Using guided meditation, you can be led on several soothing, beautiful, and nurturing journeys just by listening to a CD or being directed by an instructor. Common scenes include the beach, garden or field of flowers, waterfalls, but the list is endless. Try guided meditation for your self. What do you have to lose, except your stress?
